Should a Patient with Diabetes Eat Dried Fruits?

The available data shows that a limited quantity of dried fruits taken regularly does not affect blood sugar or body weight. However, there are not many studies, and we need long-term data. Further, if somebody does not follow a healthy lifestyle, including healthy foods and daily exercise, and takes large amounts of dates, raisins and other dried fruits over the usual calorie intake, he/she will have weight gain, and some impact on blood sugar is a likely possibility.

So a Bedouin who is walking miles daily can eat plenty of dates and probably nothing may happen to his health parameters. If a ‘couch potato’ does that, he/she may have bad consequences. So moderate intake of raisins (in combination with nuts, kaju-kishmish) and dates is fine for an active and fit person with or without diabetes.
